Danielle Geihs Band released their first, and only album in the Fall of 2001, on Telepathy Records. Entitled Hiding Places, it was a rather tumultuous union of the remarkable songwriting and voice of Las Vegas native Geihs (rhymes with "nice"), with the keyboards, arrangments, and production work of Boston native Elio DeLuca. The band also featured drummer Sean McDermott and acoustic guitarist/vocalist Sara Shansky.
Danielle and Elio began working with Danielle's material in Boston early in 2000 (much of it just voice and piano), recording early demos, and then recruiting Sean and Sara. The band's live career lasted a scant eight months in 2000-2001, mostly consisting of small gigs around the Boston area (where all four members attended Tufts University) and New England. Danielle's move to Las Vegas (and a subsequent sabbatical in Israel) in late 2001/early 2002 prevented any further collaboration. Danielle is now working in live theater in Los Angeles, as well as continuing to write songs, and to perform & record as a vocalist. Elio continues to run Telepathy Records and make music in Boston.
The album, for its striking, emotive highs & lows, varied palette of sonic statements, arresting approach to matching musical moods to lyrics, and, most of all, Danielle's hauntingly melodic vocal presence, has become an unregarded gem of local pop: a dark, sonorous jewel.
